Samaná: The only province drawing up a profile of the diseases

Samaná is the only province of the country which registered all its inhabitants on files, which makes it possible for the authorities to have an epidemiologic profile of every disease and housing conditions.

This was explained yesterday by Doctor Dominga Maleno and Doctor Nelson Rodriguez Monegro, respectively Provincial Health Director and under-secretary of Collective Health.

To obtain a reduction of the indices of mortality and to organize the health system in this province, the authorities supported by the the Agency of International Co-operation of Japan in Dominican Republic (JICA), the people is organized in 16 units of first cares.

Every unit has its health analysis, which enables us to know what are the diseases affecting every inhabitant and which are the conditions of their housing , they said.

In Samaná, the authorities know how much people is hypertensive, how much have diabetes and how much women have problems of high-risk pregnancy.

Every unit of primary cares has a given number of people with their data recorded.

The principal problems of the province, which exceeds the 92.000 inhabitants, are the diabetes, hypertension, the traffic accidents and the respiratory infections.

The family cards enable us to know our population and to change the health model , said the provincial director of Health.

The objective is to decrease the number of people who is actually going in the four provincial hospitals and to make that the people and all the authorities assume health not as a medical problem, but as a Community problem.

In this province, they also record a lot of motor bike accidents. The authorities work to the design of a reference and counter-reference model, so that people go only in the referred hospitals.

They ensure that the process of education of the inhabitants of the province is every time more obvious.

The JICA brought more than 40 million US $ during five years of work

It is an effort that must be imitated; it is the only province which already formed its units of first aid and this is valuable , said the secretary of the Public health, Bautista Rojas Gómez, at the time of the launching ceremony in February, month devoted to the First cares.

The activity is inserted within the framework of the « National Year of the Health Promotion » loped by the institution.

In this context, Doctor Rojas Gómez announced that he will name soon 275 family and general physicians who will work in these units.

He insisted on the fact that without the enthusiastic participation of the civil society in the strategy of implementation of the care units, this project of health would have been inexorably failed.

The activity laid out the assistance of Cristina Nogueira, of the Pan-American Health Office; of the Secretary of State and intersector coordinator of the Year of the Health Promotion, Onofre Rojas; of the under-secretary of Collective Health, Nelson Rodriguez Monegro; of the Administrative and financial under-secretary, Héctor Otero.

As well as of the under-secretary of Attention to the People, Rodriguez Aybar; of the under-secretary of Health, Felix Medina; of the senator of Samaná, Prim Pujals; of the PLD deputy José Acevedo, among other local authorities.

Pledged for Fernández in Nagua

President Leonel Fernández went for a tour in Nagua on Sunday

The President Leonel Fernández and candidate for re-election for the Party of the Dominican Liberation (PLD) has promised for a future mandate, the construction of the Malecón of Nagua, completion of the aqueduct and the widening of roads Nagua-San Francisco Macorís and Nagua-Samaná.

Fernández has insisted that his government has built in the province Maria Trinidad Sanchez 16 schools, four high schools, the Regional University Center of the Universidad Autonoma of Santo Domingo (UASD) and the Aqueduct of Nagua, which is finished at 80%.

Fernández spoke at the residence of the former President of the provincial direction of the Party Social Christian Reformist (PRSC) Maria Trinidad Sanchez, a businessman Reinaldo Antigua Ventura, who supports the presidential election as the governor of the municipality of Nagua, Cesarín Tabar.

The Head of State arrived in a helicopter which landed in the stadium San José de Villa, and then toured the various streets of the municipality El Factor.

ARROYO BARRIL, Samaná. - The senator Prim Pujals Nolasco, announced at the time of the inauguration of the premises of the Party of the Dominican Liberation (Partido de Liberación Dominicana (PLD), that president Leonel Fernandez ordered the installation of economic restaurants here, in Sanchez and Samaná, in which food will be sold for 5 pesos, in order to help the poor families of the surroundings.

Senator Pujals added that food will be sold for this price, because the office of Senatorial Management will finance the cost of this one, thus benefiting the voters who allowed him to triumph as a senator at the time of the elections.

The initiative received the support of hundreds of inhabitants of this Municipal District and the close sectors, in favor of the parties of the Dominican Liberation, Social Christian reformist and Revolutionary, who began to work for the re-election of President Leonel Fernández.

At the top table were present, in addition to Senator Pujals and his wife, Gladys de Pujals, the coordinator of Campaign of the PLD in Samaná, Ruth Méndez; Doctor Francisco Sandoval, president of Unidos por Renovación de Sánchez (UNIRESA) (Together for the Restoration of Sanchez); William Torres, coordinator of the External Sector of the municipality of Sánchez; the former candidate to the town hall of Sánchez and former Reformist leader Melvín Ramírez; José Alexis, mayor of Las Terrenas, and Mario Olivo, president of the Municipal Committee of the PLD in Sanchez, among others.

At the time of the inauguration, local leaders expressed themselves and Senator Pujals gave certificates of recognition to more than 30 leaders who work every day for the re-election of president Fernández for their political actions.

In the morning, the premises the movement « Together for the Restoration of Sánchez » were inaugurated, chaired by Doctor Francisco Sandoval García and which is registered among the allied external movements with the PLD in the election campaign which makes the promotion of President Leonel Fernández Reyna to the presidency of the Republic.
