BREAKING NEWS : SAMANÁ.- The sub-secretary of Tourism, Elsa de León, criticized the protagonism of the Head office of Mining Industry for a mining project in a preserved sector for ecological tourism in the province of Samaná.

She estimates that this type of mining project will not favor the zone, which is under fill tourist development.

The retailers will protest against the deterioration of the electric system

BREAKING NEWS: SAMANA. - The president of the National Federation of the Retailers of Provisions (Fenacodep) informed that a survey carried out during a meeting of the retailers of the North-eastern area of the country, which took place in Samaná, revealed that the most serious problem from which the tradesmen suffer is the deterioration of the electric system and the recent increase in the tariffs.

Juan Ignacio Caraballo called upon associations of tradesmen and owners of colmados (grocer’s shops) to join together to protest against the power cuts.

During the meeting, to which participated the associates of the North-eastern Regional Block of Fenacodep, The cry of 99.99% of the participants is founded on the deterioration of the electrical energy. But independently of the deterioration, although every day we receive less energy, our bills has more than doubled, with increases which oscillate between 40% and 50%, declared Caraballo.

The company manager explained that they considered this increase which occurred in May and June in comparison with the previous months as an abuse.

The deficit between the offer and the demand increased by 14% according to data of the Superintendence of Electricity, published in an informative bulletin.

BREAKING NEWS: Five earthquakes until 4.1 degrees of intensity on the Richter scale were felt in several points of the country, but no material damages were reported.

The Seismological Center of the University of Puerto Rico informed that the earthquakes had widths of 4.1,3.9,3.8,3.3 and 3.0 degrees on the Richter scale.

The telluric movements were recorded in Samaná, La Romana, Azua and Nagua.

The most intense tremor occurred in Samaná and the weakest in Nagua.

Two of the earthquakes occurred in Azua. The earthquakes of Samaná and La Romana occurred at the same time, at 08.24 pm, and their intensities had a difference of two degrees.

The tremor of 4.1 had its epicenter at the 19.3 degree North latitude and at 68.5 degrees West longitude, with 118.9 kilometer of depth under the sea level.

The seism occurred at 08:24 pm at 87 kilometers from Samaná and 88 kilometers from El Seibo and Higüey.

Denunciation in Samaná

Milton Ray GuevaraViolation of the Labor Regulation

BREAKING NEWS: The leader of the PRD, Milton Ray Guevara, denounced this Monday that in the province of Samaná, one violated the part of the Labor Regulation which stipulates that the national companies can only have 20 percent of foreign employees.

The Trade Union of the Construction Workers of Samaná calls to a strike because they complain of the fact that illegal workers ‘immigration puts practically a term to the employment of people of this locality, expressed Ray Guevara.

The political director called upon the Minister of Labour, Max Puig, so that this public agency takes care of monitoring that nobody violates this Labor Regulation provision.

He also requested the support of the Minister of Tourism, Francisco Javier García, to contribute with the Association of Fishermen of Samaná to the construction of the fishermen mall.

He also informed that next Saturday, they will swear in the work forces to choose the post of Senator of the province.
