BREAKING NEWS: Samaná. - The Electricity Company of the North (EDENORTE), informed today that work aiming at integrating Samaná into the system of 24 hours of electricity service in an unstopped way, advanced quickly.

The director of the San Francisco Sector of EDENORTE, Mr Francisco Polanco, declared that this decision implied an investment of 30 million pesos.

He explained that the architectural work and of adaptation of the electrical communications of the city was finished by 70%,

Reason for why we hope to inaugurate this service which will be appropriate for the commercial residences and establishment, during the last week of June .

BREAKING NEWS: The Wind Generator of Las Galeras, first national project to produce energy starting from the wind, received the Atabey prize for its contribution to the culture of the safeguarding of the environment in Dominican Republic.

The prize recognizes the effort made during more than ten years by the Dominican company manager Jose Oscar Orsini Bosch to set up the first wind power generator for commercial use in the country and which operates since year 2007 in the municipal sector of Las Galeras, province of Samaná .

Orsini Bosch is the president of the Luz y Fuerza Company, enterprise which for more than fifteen years is providing energy services on a 24 hours basis, 7 days per week in the tourist Community of Las Terrenas.

The distinction corresponding to the category of Clean Energies, was justified because it is contributing to the improvement and to the conservation of the environment through the introduction of the first wind energy generator of the country, by supporting the adequate use of the natural resources which guarantee an ecological balance and a local economic development.

By receiving the reward, the executive director of the wind company, Alejandra Orsini, defined the prize as a recognition for the perseverance of her father and as a motivation for all the contractors who are trying to bring solutions to the problems of the country, by exceeding the difficulties that represent the conclusion of a new project.

She said that Engineer Orsini Bosch has the vision and the commitment to make of Samaná the first green province energetically speaking, by promoting projects of renewable energy.

The distinction was granted during the ceremony of handing-over of the Atabey Environmental Prize, sponsored by the Innovation Atabey Center, chaired by Domingo Contreras.

Atabey is a non-profit organization of which objective is to promote sustainable local development and safeguarding of environment, by sensitizing the population on its participation in the climate change, by the knowledge of an environmental culture which makes possible the improvement of urban and rural quality of life, to produce compromises at the community, employer’s, governmental and personal levels.

Leonel Fernández asks recommendations to the United Nations Environment Program

BREAKING NEWS : President Leonel Fernandez announced yesterday that he requested of the United Nations Environment Program, through United Nations National Development Program (UNDP), to evaluate the cement plants being built near the Los Haitises National Park and in Luperón, Puerto Plata, to make a final decision.

In a luncheon with media directors in the National Palace, Fernandez affirmed that on controversial issues which affect public opinion he’ll seek out the expertise of neutral international organisms to make the corresponding decision.

The chief executive’s comments came during a luncheon with media directors Wednesday afternoon.
