During the « village meeting » with the people of Samana, President Fernandez assured his audience that US $465 million had been invested in the development of the province during his last administrations.
Fernandez pointed out that these resources were invested in the construction of the Santo Domingo - Samana Toll Road, that is part of the Boulevard of the North, and the construction of the aqueduct for the city, whose second stage is still pending completion.
The Chief Executive said that this investment is equal to about half of the cost of the Metro in Santo Domingo, and so in Samana we have a little Metro of development.
After listening to the requests and demands of the community representative that included everything from ambulances to the remodeling of a church, the President said that Samana only has small details
that are iinsignificant
iin comparison to the investment already made.
Among these small details
indicated by the Chief of State, are the remodeling and cleaning up of the entrance to the city, and the transfer of the garbage dump outside city limits.
The activity, which took place in the provincial governor’s building and got started at 4:30 in the afternoon when the President arrived, brought together hundreds of persons. Only nine people were able to express the necessities of the Samana people directly to the President.
They demanded, among other things, the repair of the streets, the completion of several highways, the clean up of the Pueblo Viejo River, ambulances for the local public hospitals, stronger measures against the growing drug trafficking in the area, vehicles for the police stations, logistical support for local fishermen and the completion and repair of various religious buildings and churches.
Another issue that was not left off of the agenda was the stalled housing project for those persons displaced by landslides in the town of Sanchez.
During the encounter the President took notes and received the written list of requests from each of the nine speakers.
After receiving the petitions, Fernandez asked for explanations from some of the officials present regarding the complaints that had been expressed, and these persons promised to resolve the issues.
In the activity, besides the President, the provincial governor, Miguel Bezi, the Senator Prim Pujals, Cesar Pina Toribio, the Presidential Minister, and Public Works Minister Victor Diaz Rua and Jay Payano the Sports Minister and Mariano German the head of Inapa (the Institute for Potable Water and Sewers) all took part.

To protect natural resourcesBREAKING NEWS: SAMANA.- The Environmental Council of Samaná, the first in the country, was created as a counselor of the provincial director of environment.
The COMASA is the first entity of this type in the country, and will try to support the provincial director of environment in the research of operations that develop the preservation of natural resources, the promotion of positive initiatives and the identification of vital human and financial resources for the provincial environment interests.
COMASA is a counseling organization, so it does not have executive, penal and judicial power.
It’s goal is to reach international benchmark in environment.
The provincial tourist development and the new facilites transformed the peninsula in one of the most famous tourist destination of the country, at the same time real estate sector creates employment.
But this development create challenges in important aspects of the province’s environment system.
It’s in this challenges that the Council wishes to work, in order to preserve the health of human being and the conservation of natural resources.
