New tourist destinations attract Russian tourists

BREAKING NEWS: Samaná.- The director and coordinator of the Tourism Promotion Offices in Europe, the Dominican Republic, Petra Cruz, said that Russian tourists are looking for multi-destinations within the Dominican Republic, and is currently promoting new tourist destinations in the country for this market, as are Puerto Plata and Samaná.

We have already negotiated and agreed with the different tour operators to include these destinations in their travel programs. There will be no direct flights at first and will take place with airlines such as Lufthansa and Condor, although we hope to announce in the winter 2010-2011 a Russian charter flight to Puerto Plata and Samaná Airport, said Mrs. Cruz.

The official stated that the Russian market is extremely important for the Dominican Republic and has recently shown a consistent growth. On the other hand, she pointed out that that Russia has a very vast territory, so we understand that we need to have two development offices there. So we will keep our office in St. Petersburg, where Galina Lysenko has done a commendable job since 2004, and soon we will open another one in Moscow, which will be headed by Victor Rodriguez.

In addition, Mrs. Cruz said that the number of Russian tourists who travelled to the Dominican Republic in 2009 reached 54,414. This represents an increase of 22.74% compared to 2008. As for Ukraine, the percent is lower, but the level of increase is also very high high: we closed 2009 with 4493 Ukrainian tourists, 16% more than in 2008.

More than 500 graduates of the province of Samaná will enter to the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo

BREAKING NEWS: Samaná.- More than 500 young graduates from different communities in the province of Samaná participated in a preparation reunion for the start of academic period in the Nagua Regional University Center (Curna) of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD).

The event was held in the auditorium of the elementary school of that community and was led by the coordinator of the Regional University Centers, teacher Juan Tomas Olivero Figuereo, representing the rector of the academy, Dr. Franklin García Fermín.

Mr. Figuereo Olivero said the classes were scheduled to start from next semester and there is a strong commitment to support youth.
He reaffirmed that the dream of youth should be ensured by opening the doors of academia.

BREAKING NEWS: Samaná.- A true human overflow occurred Saturday in the provinces of Samaná, Duarte Espaillat around President Leonel Fernández, who went through the streets of the towns of these areas.

The support that different populations offered to candidates from the PLD and the Social Christian Reformist Party ¡ is interpreted by the operational direction of the Campaign Committee of the PLD as the prelude to the electoral victory.

The asphalting works of the Samaná streets are concluded

State will continue to give funds for the development of the province

BREAKING NEWS: Samaná.- The Ministry of Public Works concluded the asphalting of the Samaná streets.

The provincial governor, Lic Miguelín Bezi said that these works are the results of claims that were exposed in one of the people’s councils made by President Leonel Fernandez in this tourist city.

Samaná, has been adorned with the reconstruction of streets Francisco Del Rosario Sánchez, María Trinidad Sánchez, Teodoro Chatereaux.

Similarly, seven miles of streets have been paved in the districts of Villa Salma, Las Bastidas, Colon, Mercado Municipal and Wilmorl, among others.

The governor said that government investment in the reconstruction of these roads is about 27 million pesos and vowed to continue allocating resources for the development of the province of Samaná.
